HOI AN – HANDICRAFT LANTERN MAKING EXPERIENCE
IN CONSTRUCTION
HIGHLIGHTS
- Traditional handicraft making
- Fun family time
- Visit Hoi An countryside ans its famous, classified Unesco, old town
Have fun at our unique lantern-making workshop in the Unesco heritage village of Hoi An.
Accompanied by your guide, head to the countryside of Hoi An and participate in a lantern-making workshop. The colorful lanterns are one of the famous symbols of this charming city.
It’s also the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful villages in Vietnam, all in yellow-painted little shops and colorful lanterns dangling on the streets, porches, and even boats.
The profession of lantern-making was imported to Hoi An in the 17th century when Chinese merchants arrived to establish their businesses. On public holidays, they traditionally used to light their shops with luminous lanterns.
Nowadays, Hoi An has fully integrated this tradition in its history and is renowned for the quality of its handcrafted paper lanterns.
During 1.5 hours, a local craftsman will also share with you the secret of these beautiful ornaments. You will get to learn the different steps of the process, from creating the bamboo frame, wrapping it in fabric, and then painting and decorating as you wish.
Then, you will be taken on a guided walking tour through the old quarters of Tran Phu and Nguyen Thai Hoc, with the opportunity to visit many beautiful sites: Fujian Shrine, Phuc Thanh Pagoda, Phuoc Kien Communal House, traditional wooden houses, and finally the famous Japanese covered bridge.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant (and you can try the delicious local specialty: Cao Lau). After lunch, return to the hotel and enjoy the rest of your free day free at your leisure.
