Day 1: Phong Nha – Ban Doong Village – Hang En
Between 07.30 am and 08.00 am, you will be picked up from your hotel in Phong Nha for a drive to the Oxalis office. There, you will have a tour safety briefing, you’ll receive the required equipment and you’ll have to sign the release form before starting your adventure to the Hang En Cave.
The trek is divided into three major steps. First, it begins with a steep downhill segment, leading into the mysterious jungle, followed by a short uphill walk. The final step of the trek is a long and steep descent (rocky at times) to a small stream. There, follow the stream for half an hour before arriving at Ban Doong.
Ban Doong is a small minority village inside the national park where you’ll get to witness the lifestyle of the locals.
Enjoy a delicious lunch and learn about the village.
An additional 20 minutes trek will bring you to the main river and the enchanting Hang En river valley. The route to the cave follows the river, so you’ll frequently have to cross the river and wet your shoes but it’s totally worth it!
The valley is wide and stunning with beautiful rock formations and a lush fauna. Arriving at the cave, you will discover a small rocky hill at the entrance of the river. Located in a huge chamber with a wide opening providing daylight and a spectacular view, it’s the ideal spot for settling camp. Enjoy a swim in the emerald lagoon nearby before a lavish dinner provided by the porter team.
Day 2: Hang En – Phong Nha
In the morning, climb the rocky hill behind the camp to take beautiful photos as a souvenir of your backpacker adventure. Then, follow the main river passage, a small sandy hill, and a higher rocky hill to finally reach the exit of the spectacular Hang En site. It’s another perfect occasion to stop for pictures because the spot is undoubtedly stunning and one of the most beautiful places of the national park.
Return to the camp via the river passage and enjoy a delicious freshly cooked lunch in the cave.
Finally, it’s time to say goodbye to Hang En and head back up the river valley. Take a different route through the forest back to the road to explore even more beautiful landscapes. Enjoy a cold drink before heading back to Phong Nha. The arrival is programmed around 05.00 pm.
