Day 01 : CHIANG MAI – PAI
Free lunch and dinner - night at Pai - 2.5h drive, 142km - your flight should arrive in Chiang Mai before 10am
You will be welcomed at Chiang Mai airport by our local team and your English-speaking guide, drive to Pai. Free lunch. Visit of three ethnic villages: Ban Bang Paek (Lisu tribe), although they represent only about 5% of the total population of the tribes, Lisu are famous for their bright clothes. They are established in areas of high altitude. Ban Mae Ping (Karen tribe) and finally Ban Ban Jabo and Payang (Lahu tribe). Lahu: called by the Thai "Muser" because they are hunters by tradition. With animistic origins, like most tribes, many of them have been converted to Christianity. Lahu women wear red and black jackets with narrow black skirts. Dinner and overnight in Pai.
Day 02 : PAI – MAE TAENG – MAE NGAT - CHIANG DAO
Free lunch and dinner - night at Chiang Dao - 2,5h drive, 160km
Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Mae Ngat and its artificial lake, place of healing, peace and pleasure. After passing through rice fields and rolling hills, the mountain range will drive you to Sri Lanna National Park with bright flowers in season. Few kilometres away, discovery of the dam and the lake. Lunch at the lake. Free time to swim, fish or go canoeing. Then, drive to Chiang Dao, free dinner and overnight in Chiang Dao.
Day 03 : CHIANG DAO – DOI ANGKHANG – THATON
Free lunch and dinner - night at Thaton - 3h drive, 179km - 2h bike ride, 10km
Breakfast at hotel, then short bike ride to explore the beautiful surroundings and the Chiang Dao Caves in Ban. 4 caves are open to tourists, one is lit, which is not the case for the other 3, you must be accompanied by a guide. You can also discover the Doi Luang, the limestone mountain is located in the Chiang Dao Wildlife Reserve, 2,195 above sea level. The region is rich in flowers growing in altitude, birds, and butterflies.
Free lunch, then you will go to the Doi Ang Khang National Park, the Royal Agriculture Research Center. Drive to Thaton. Discovery of Fang Hot Springs in Ban Pin, 50 hot springs occupy an area of 5 hectares in the middle of the forest. Three of them are continuously boiling at temperatures ranging from 90 to 100°C. Visit Thaton, located on the bank of the Kok River, near the border with Myanmar, you can visit the Wat Tha Ton. Free dinner and overnight in Thaton.
Day 4 : THATON – MAE FA LUANG – TRIANGLE D’OR – CHIANG RAI
Free lunch and dinner - night at Chiang Rai - 5hr45 drive, 286km
Breakfast at hotel, then transfer to Mae Salong, a village in the clouds with a splendid panoramic view. The history of this village is linked to the withdrawal of the army against the Communist who will occupy the village to develop thanks to opium. Visit of the Artistic and Cultural Park of Mae Fah Luang that concentrates one of the largest collections of Lanna Thai antiques. You can also enjoy the surroundings for hiking. This tour will take you in the footsteps of KMT soldiers whose descendants are the present inhabitants of Mae Salong. You will discover during this half day stunning sceneries, tea plantations and ethnic minorities. Drive to Mae Sai and lunch. Mae Sai is the northernmost town in Thailand. It is one of three crossing points between Thailand and Myanmar (Burma). Like all border towns, it is an important trade center. Head Chiang Rai by motorized canoe on the Kok River and visit a Tibeto-Burmese town. Dinner, possibility of visiting the night market in Chiang Rai.
Day 05 : CHIANG RAI – MAE CHAN
Free lunch and dinner - night at Mae Chan - 1h bush taxi, 40km
Breakfast at hotel and departure to Mae Chan by bush taxi. Visit the tribe’s villages of Akha, Yao and Padaung (giraffe women). The Akha are a small minority, which does not exceed 3% of all the country's minorities. From Tibet, they are the last to be arrived. They live on the summits above 1300m. Akha women wear very decorated headdresses, beaded and small silver balls. There are approximately 40.000 Yao in Thailand. From China, they are still influenced by Chinese culture, and are the only group to keep written marks of their history and their culture. The long necks stretched by the rings of Padaung women are known worldwide. The Padaung are a very small minority, and are the most recent immigrants in Thailand. They live in the mountainous region of Mae Hong Son and Mae Chan, very close to the border with Myanmar, their former homeland. Lunch and free afternoon to walk in the pleasant surroundings. Dinner and overnight in Mae Chan.
Day 06 : MAE CHAN – MAE SAI – TACHILEIK
Free lunch and dinner - night at Mandalay or at Inle Lake - 1h drive, 56km - Flight MANDALAY or LAC INLE (MYANMAR)
Breakfast at hotel, then transfer to Mae Sai, border crossing and transfer to Tachileik Airport. Flight to Mandalay or Inle Lake, free lunch and dinner. Overnight in Mandalay or Inle Lake.
