Day 01 : CHIANG MAI – LAMPHUN - LAMPANG
Free lunch and dinner – night at Lampang - your flight should arrive before 8am - 2h drive, 100km
You will be welcomed at the airport of Chiang Mai by our local team and your English speaking guide. Transfer by private air-conditioned vehicle from Chiang Mai to Lamphun (26km-30min). Lamphun is known for its lamyai (fruit) orchard, its silk and its cotton handwoven. It was originally the center of the Mon kingdom, called Haripunchai. Discover of many ruins like Wat Phrathat Hariphunchai. Located in the town center, this temple dates from the early 12th century. Its main feature is its golden Chedi of 46 meters high, rebuilt in 1443. Drive to Lampang (74km-1.5hour).
During the afternoon you can visit the city, famous for its horse-drawn carriages. Founded in the mid basin of the Wang River, the province has a landscape of green hills. Built in 7th century with a rich architectural heritage, bearing witness to the ancient civilization of Harinphunchai, Lanna and Myanmar. One of the most impressive examples is the Wat Phra That Lampang Luang. Elephants have played a key role as "work tool" during the teak industry. Observe elephants at the Conservation Centre, be impressed by their agility, their practice of painting and music. Free dinner and overnight at Lampang.
Day 02 : LAMPANG – PHRAE – PHAYAO
Free lunch and dinner – night at Phayao - 5h drive, 312km
Drive to Phrae (110km-68mi-2hrs) after breakfast at hotel. Visit Wat temple Salaeng in Long District. The chedi may contain a relic of Lord Buddha brought by the queen Chamathewi. But the main attraction is a small viharn, recently built, with a beautifully decorated interior paints and gilding. Phrae province is known for its many temples. In The Forest Park of Phae Muang Phi, discover an unusual landscape created by wind and erosion. Walk in the city center to discover the main temples, traditional houses Teak and local Lanna architecture. Wat Chom Sawan, resembling an ancient royal palace in Mandalay (Burma), was built between 1910 and 1912, it is one of Shan monasteries. Then drive to Phayao. On the way discovery of Mae Yom National Park, teak forests, waterfalls and hot springs. This is probably one of the most beautiful national parks in Thailand, with an important wildlife like elephants, deer, mountain goats, and the Asian black bear. Continue to Phayao. Then, visit Analayo Wat temple. Lying on the whole side of the mountain with a huge Buddha which sits on the top. On the banks of the lake you can visit the Wat Sri Khom Kham, contain an important Buddha image of approximately 17m high and 14m wide. A Folk Museum on Lake contains antiques and exhibitions of local lifestyles. Dinner and overnight in Phayao.
Day 03 : PHAYAO – NAN
Free lunch and dinner - night at Nan - 2h drive, 132km
Breakfast at hotel, drive to Nan, dating from the Sukhothai period (1238-1350). It contains several Buddhist temples. The oldest, Phrathat Chae Haeng is supposed to have over 600 years, and is dominated by a graceful golden pagoda. Wat Chang Kham Wora Wiharn was built in the early 16th century. Wat Phumin, built during the late 16th century, contains a chapel that contains a unique representation of the Buddha. Wat Ming Muang with rococo. Free lunch. In the afternoon discover the Nan National Museum located in the palace of the last two feudal lords of Nan, covering the various ethnic groups in the province. Free dinner. Visit the Night Market, Thai food and many stalls. Overnight in Nan.
Day 04 : NAN – PUA – BAN HUAI KON – MEUANG NGEUN - PAKBENG (LAOS)
Free lunch and dinner - night at Pakbeng - 4h45 drive, 255km
Breakfast at hotel, then head to Pua. Free lunch, and drive to Ban Huai Kon to the Laos border. Then direction Meuang Ngeun and Pakbeng by a road bordered by rice fields and villages. You will reach your destination in the evening. Majestic sunset on the Mekong. Free Dinner and visit Wat Phrathat Chang Kham Wora Wiharn built in the early 16th century. Passing border formalities - Thailand / Laos will take about 30 minutes. If you sleep in Pakbeng Lodge you can experience a Baci ceremony of a popular time practiced by the Lao in all important circumstances of daily life. It is intended to attract beneficial influences, making the guests back to more of 32 souls (khouan) possessed by every human being according to Lao tradition. Or learn traditional Lao dances and their different costumes along ethnic lines. Overnight in Pakbeng.
Day 05 : PAKBENG – CROISIÈRE MEKONG – PAK OU - LUANG PRABANG
Free lunch and dinner - night at Luang Prabang - 7h cruise
Breakfast at hotel, then cruise along the Mekong to head Pak Ou Caves and the city of Luang Prabang. You will board a traditional boat. This day on the Mekong will be embellished with a stop to visit the famous Pak Ou Caves. Revered throughout the country, they provide shelter for hundreds statues bearing the image of Buddha offered by Laos for generations. Lunch on board. At sunset, you will head the iconic Luang Prabang peninsula.
