Day 03            YANGON           



You may arrive at any time today into Yangon international airport.

On arrival at Yangon International Airport, your English speaking guide will meet you in the arrivals area of the airport, with welcome board with your name on it. You will then transfer to your hotel, by air-conditioned vehicle (transfer time approximately 1 hour).

A visit to Yangon will prove that Myanmar is one of Southeast Asia’s cultural treasures. Yangon, the former capital city of Myanmar, is the main gateway to this beautiful Southeast Asian country. Pagodas are the main tourist attractions in Yangon, but Myanmar is also well-known for good food. As Myanmar's commercial and artistic hub, it's Yangon that most reflects the changes that have occurred since the country reopened to the world. There's a rash of new restaurants, bars and shops for all to enjoy for every budget.

After checking in to your hotel, the rest of the day is free to spend your leisure at Strand Hotel. The Strand Hotel Yangon is Burma’s most iconic and elegant 5-star hotels in Yangon. The Strand reminds travelers of the country’s Grand Colonial Splendor. Built in 1901, it remains as awe inspiring as it was in the early 20th Century. The Strand was one of the most luxurious hotels in Myanmar.

DAY 02 : YANGON    

Breakfast at the hotel

Explore Yangon with a lavishly restored antique post-colonial Chevrolet passenger’s bus.

First, you will go to City Hall which is considered to be a fine example of Myanmar architecture. The construction of this building started in 1926 and ended in 1936. The building is enlisted on the Yangon City Heritage List. Then head towards Strand road filled with colonial buildings. On the way, stop off at Botahtaung jetty to observe the local life.

After lunch, proceed to Kandawgyi Lake, which has spectacular photo opportunities of Karaweik Barge, the lake, and the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Towards the end of the day, visit the famous Shwedagon Pagoda built 2500 years ago, which is one the wonders of the world. There are always many Burmese people praying and making offerings at Shwedagon, hence a fascinating place to spend time watching the world go by.

After breakfast, the day begins with a visit to Kon Zay Dan Street in downtown Yangon. The market here is filled with stalls selling herbs, plants and even sea shells. Learn from the guide how each ingredient is used in traditional medicine in Myanmar. The street is also home to shops selling other goods such as famous tea leaf salad, thanaka- the yellow paste worn by many Burmese- and an array of religious items.

Visit Bogyoke Aung San Market (former Scott’s Market), where shopper’s favorite you can browse through the wide selection of Myanmar handicrafts and other goods. (Note: Market is closed on Mondays and public holidays).

Then you guide take you to local tea shop – Lucky Seven. Tea shops are a really rich part of understanding Burmese culture. Tea is a national drink and most of the local are obsessed with tea. The culture of drinking tea fits in perfectly with the local way of life, and tea shops fulfil a social need, a place to bond and belong, sip and share, exchange news and views, rest, relax and refresh, and continue to serve as a comfort zone. Enjoy Burmese Tea, laphet yay — sweet Burmese tea carefully mixed with black tea, evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk.

In the afternoon, take a drive to Htwe Oo Myanmar Puppetry Home, a unique place where Myanmar traditional and cultural heritage of string puppetry is demonstrated.

Enjoy a brief historical tutorial before the show starts which will give you a framework for puppetry in Myanmar.

Then learn the puppet making process and how to manipulate the puppets.

DAY 04 : YANGON International Departure

According to your international flight Schedule, Transfer to Yangon International Airport.

Given the traffic jams in Yangon it is necessary to plan at least 2h to rally the city center and the airport and it is necessary to be 2 hours before the take-off at the airport at the latest.
