DAY 02 : INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL - YANGON

Arrival at Yangon international airport

Departure to get close to the largest city in Myanmar also called the Green City.

Visit the Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda, which houses a beautiful and gigantic reclining Buddha. His face is softened by his serene expression.

Lunch in a local restaurant

Settle down at your hotel for a refreshment (rooms available at 2pm)

Your afternoon is dedicated to the discovery of one of Myanmar gems, one of the most spectacular monuments in the world, the Shwedagon Pagoda. You will be amazed by the sound of bells and the faithful singing at the foot of the huge golden stupa. End the day by contemplating the sunset.

DAY 03 : YANGON – MANDALAY          

Breakfast at the hotel

Transfer to Yangon airport for your domestic flight to Mandalay.

Arrival in Mandalay around noon

The second city of Myanmar, its "cultural heart", and one of the former royal capitals.

Settle down at your hotel

In the afternoon, your visit to Mandalay will begin with the visit of the most important pagodas and temples:

- The Mahamuni Pagoda, one of the most honored Buddha statues in the country, is completely covered with gold leaf.

- The surprising Kuthodaw Pagoda, often referred to as "the world's largest book," for its collection of 729 marble plaques with Buddhist teachings.

- Shwenandaw Monastery, the "golden monastery", built entirely of teck wood and decorated with beautiful panels and remarkable wood carvings.

End the day on the Mandalay hill to admire the sunset.

DAY 04 : MANDALAY – AMARAPURA – AVA – MINGUN – MANDALAY 

Breakfast at the hotel

After breakfast, the day will begin by the exploration of the ancient capitals of Amarapura and Ava.IMG_0709_opt.jpg

You will start with the discovery of Amarapura, former royal capital of Myanmar.

Walk on the legendary U Bein bridge, made of teak wood, which is over 1.2 km

Once having crossed the bridge, visit of the Kyauktawgyi pagoda.

Take time to stroll around the pagoda. You will contemplate several small stupas disappearing under the vegetation.

Join the villagers who usually take their tea in one of the few small stalls nearby.

Then, visit of Ava, capital of the Kingdom of Myanmar from the 14th to the 18th century.

By traditional carriage, get close to :

The ruins of the Royal Palace; -

The Bagaya Kyaung monastery, all made of teak wood; -

The monastery of Maha Aungmye Bonzan, built of brick and stucco; -

Nanmyin Guard Tower, also called the "Leaning Tower of Ava"

Transfer to Mandalay pier  for your cruise on the Irrawaddy River to reach Mingun,

Visit the Mingun Pagoda whose construction was begun by King Bodawpaya the early 19th century and which should have been the largest in the world. The sovereign's death in 1819 and the 1838 earthquake stopped this grandiose project.

Another stop is planned at the Mingun Bell (90 tons, 4m high and 5m diameter), the second largest bell in the world after Moscow.

You will also see the beautiful white Hsinbyume Pagoda

Return cruise back to Mandalay (approximately 45 min)

DAY 05 : MANDALAY – PAKKOKU – BAGAN

In the morning, set off to Pakkoku (4h drive)

You will discover the daily life of the small villages

Short breaks can be made whenever on the way.     

Arrival in Pakkokku, discovery of its local market and tanaka

You will embark on a traditional private boat for your cruise on the Irrawady river to reach Bagan.

DAY 06 : BAGAN

Bagan is definitely the most amazing site of Myanmar. At the edge of the Irrawaddy River, the plain is an area of ​​40 km², home to thousands temples (2219 exactly).

All these remains have been built from 12th to 13th century by successive rulers who made the greatness of Bagan (Anawratha, Kyanzittha, Alaungsithu and Narapatisith). This incredible concentration of temples in Bagan is the highlight of your stay in Myanmar, the sunset over the site remains unforgettable.

The discovery of the site by bicycle or car (depending on your preferences) will begin by the temples of:

  • Gubyaukgyi and its murals
  • Manuha
  • Nagayon

Being next to Myinkaba village, you will visit the laquer workshops

Visit family workshops, and observe the creation of the most admired lacquers of the region.

Lacquers whose manufacture has acquired, over the years, an international reputation.

All the stages of manufacture are presented and we can only remain amazed by the skill of the craftsmen.

You will taste the local culinary specialties such as the Pe Chaung, made with green beans and the famous Pone Yay Gyi, a black paste made from soya beans, very popular among local pilgrims who buy it in Bagan to offer it as a gift to family members

You will continue your exploration by taking a path that leads to Patho Dhammayangyi and ends at Paya Shwesandaw and from which you can admire sunset.

DAY 07 : BAGAN

Breakfast at your own expense

Suggestion : Around 5am, transfer to the site dedicated to overflying Bagan via Hot Air Balloon

Duration : 1h. Return back to the hotel around 8-8.30am

After breakfast, your guide will take you from your hotel to the colorful market of Nyuang Oo, where the locals trade fresh products, and also their artisanal makings

Your guide will introduce you to the many herbs and vegetables used in Burmese cuisine

As you are nearby, you will visit the Swhezigon Pagoda, where the pilgrims come to honor Buddha and the 37 Nats.

Your afternoon will start by carriage to continue the visit of the temples and pagodas:

In particular, the Thatbyinnyu, the largest temple in Bagan

The visit to the Ananda Temple, which has been described as an architectural work of genius and is certainly one of the most striking temples of Bagan. Discover his murals, dating from the 13th century

Visit the Kyaukku U cave temple in sandstone, massive on the outside, but adorned with fine sculptures and frescoes on the inside.

DAY 08 : BAGAN – HEHO –  INLE LAKE

In the morning, transfer to Bagan airport for your domestic flight to Heho.

Upon arrival at Heho, set off for  Nyaung Shwe,  “the entrey point” of the Inle Lake.

Board on a motorized boat.

Discovery of a superb setting: the lake is a blue and purple oasis punctuated with islands, temples and monasteries.

First contact with the Inthas, a marine people, famous for their unique worldwide wayof fishing with a trap and rowing with a leg.

It will also be the opportunity to go to the "floating market", or to visit a village built on stilts amidst "floating gardens".

Visit Phaung Daw U Monastery, which contains 5 Buddhas brought back from the Malay Peninsula during the 12th century

Walk through the village (visit of some of the many workshops).

After lunch, visit of the Nga Phe monastery

This wooden monastery, built on stilts, contains an astonishing collection of Buddha statues.

Finally you will discover the local handicrafts of the Inle Lake with a stop off at the village of Inpawkhone, famous for its weaving of lotus flower stems, and a traditional handmade Burmese cigar factory.

The day will come to an end: return by boat to your hotel.

DAY 09 :  INLE LAKE – INDEIN – INLE LAKE

After your breakfast, your motorized canoe will take you through a small canal dotted with floating vegetation in the village of Pa-Oh, located on the west shore of the Inle Lake.IMG_1204_opt.jpg

Walk around the village. Hundreds of stupas, crossed by trees or roots, surround them

Visit the Indein Pagoda, one of the most beautiful sites on the shores of the lake.

DAY 10 : INLE LAKE – HEHO – THANDWE – NGAPALI

After your breakfast, you will be taken to Heho Airport for a domestic flight to Thandwe, a village near Ngapali Beach, a beautiful wild west coast

You will leave your guide at the airport of Heho.

Welcome at Thandwe airport by the hotel staff.

Transfer to your hotel

Your hotel is located on a long sandy beach lined with coconut trees, in the heart of the beautiful bay of Bengal.

Suggestion:

Rent a bike for a tour in the countryside along the sea. Passing through fishing villages, enjoy a seafood meal in one of the many restaurants on the coast. Or take advantage of the facilities offered by the hotel (sea canoe, fishing sessions, cocktail classes ...)
