Day 03 BAGAN


DAY 01 : MANDALAY International Arrival

You may arrive at any time today into Mandalay international airport.

On arrival at Mandalay International Airport, your English speaking guide will meet you in the arrivals area of the airport, with welcome board with your name on it. You will then transfer to Mandalay city center, by air-conditioned vehicle (transfer time approximately 1 hour).

Located on the banks of the Irrawaddy River, Mandalay is Burma's second largest city, with about six million inhabitants. It was its last royal capital, between 1860 and 1885, during the Konbaung dynasty. It was then called the "city of jewels", for its renowned jade. It is now the administrative capital of the Mandalay region.

Start your day by visiting the Kuthodaw Pagoda, whose 729 marble stone slabs of Buddhist scriptures have earned it the title ‘World’s Biggest Book’ Continue to Shwenandaw Monastery, the only remaining building from the 19th century Royal Palace. This grand teak building is known for its exquisite woodcarving.

DAY 02 : MANDALAY - BAGAN Cycling through Mandalay

Breakfast at the hotel 

After breakfast, you will start (07:30 approx) Mandalay morning ride to country side (22Km). Not the usual kind of city tour, this easy ride is a chance to learn about the lifestyle of the residents of Myanmar’s second city. We’ll pedal through the leafy eastern suburbs to see small markets & businesses at work and surprisingly quickly find ourselves out in the countryside, near the foothills of the Shan Mountains. On our return to the city we‘ll stop for lunch at Tea Shop and sample some of Mandalay’s most famous dishes.

Departure to Bagan. (Transfer time approximately 4h).

The Bagan archaeological zone is one of the largest and most important historical sites in South East Asia. It is located in the dry zone of Central Burma, on the East bank of the Irrawaddy river. Today, about 2,200 monuments remain in various states of repair, which makes Bagan one of the densest concentrations of temples and pagodas in the world.

Transfer to your hotel and spend the rest of the day free at leisure.

DAY 03 : BAGAN Mountain Biking to Discover Bagan Main Temples

Enjoy a full day of excursion to discover the wonderful Myanmar’s greater wonder by mountain bike: Bagan.

Begin your visit with a stop at the colorful Nyaung Oo Market where every day locals come to buy and sell fresh produce and other goods. You will discover the local smells and flavors that the inhabitants will be happy to make you taste. Your guide will explain you the herbs and vegetables used in local daily dishes. You will taste the local culinary specialties including Pe Chaung, based on chickpea and the famous Pone Yay Gyi, a black paste made from soybeans, very popular among local people. Then, visit the Mynkaba village located in the south. Stop at the Mynkaba-Gubaukkyi Temple, with its impressive murals and frescos and the temple is also one of the oldest temples of Bagan dating from 1113. Then, we will head to a traditional lacquer-ware workshop where you can observe skilled artisans produce one of Myanmar’s best-known handicrafts.

Discovery of the Ananda Temple, jewel of Burmese architecture and one of the major places of pilgrimage for the Burmese. Visit Shwegugyi Temple, also known as the Great Golden Cave, is an example of Bagan architecture in the middle ages. Then head to Thatbyinnyu, the largest temple in Bagan and Shwesandaw Pagoda.

In the morning, transfer to Bagan airport for your domestic flight to Heho (about 40 minutes’ flight). Upon arrival at the airport, your guide will take you to Pindaya, (about 1 hour by road).

Panoramic route, hilly landscape covered with market gardening as far as the eye can see, women Pa-O in traditional dress piquant rice or vegetables and hilarious children riding water buffaloes: Welcome to Shan country.

Visit the natural caves of Pindaya and their eight thousand statues of Buddha in teak, alabaster, marble, cement, covered with gold, stored over the centuries and donations tracing the evolution of representations of Buddha.

Then, you will visit nearby workshop of making Shan paper umbrellas, specialty of the region. You will learn how to making shan paper using fibers of mulberry tree. You will have a piece of Shan Paper with your name especially Burmese writing on it.

DAY 05 : PINDAYA Trekking through Superb Natural Landscape

After breakfast at your hotel, depart to trekking departure point.

Walk through the hills, 1 hour to Htwe Ni, village of the Danu tribe and stop for a simple lunch. You will pass through plantations and farms where the Danu cultivates cheroot, tea plantations, and mangoes on the hillsides.

Enjoy a traditional Burmese lunch at local house.

The track crosses the valley floor before climbing very steeply again to another Danu village of See Kyat Inn.

Enjoy the evening at the village where you will have the opportunity to meet with villagers. Villagers and your guide will cook for you, then enjoy local specialties for dinner.

Breakfast at local house.

This morning, enjoy your walk through the hills. The path leads through several villages (1 hours to Taung Paw Gyi) where they produce Shan Tea in the traditional way. You will see the drying of the tealeaves and pass through the tea plantations. From the hills are great views on the surrounding Shan plateau. Return (1 hour walk from Taung Paw Gyi to Pindaya).

After lunch, departure to Nyaung Shwe.

Then, you will board your private wooden boat for excursion on Inle Lake. Explore villages built on stilts and floating gardens, getting a chance to learn about the life and culture of the lake’s residents. Next, you will hop in your boat and take a watery journey to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, Inle Lake’s most sacred temple. You will have the chance to admire five Buddha images whose gold leaf offerings have given them a peculiar shape. Continue by boat to Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery which houses dozens of Shan Buddha images, which is famous for its ‘jumping cats’. Then you can explore the local crafts at the weaving village of Inpawkhone and at the cheroot factory where they make the Burmese cigars by hand. Return to your hotel by pirogue. (Transfer time 1h00).

DAY 07 : INLE LAKE Kayaking at Local Village - HEHO - YANGON International Departure

Today you will be out of exploring Inle Lake by motorized long tail boat to get an amazing kayaking experience on the lake. Head by motorized boat to Se Sine Village, then start paddling around the village after a brief instruction by your local instructor.

Enjoy two hours kayaking on the Inle Lake. (Kayak for one or two people). You will be able to discover the life of the villagers while passing by several small villages at your own pace.

Arrival at Magyi Seik village, you will stop at a monastery for traditional Shan Tea or Cold drinks. Enjoy some relax time before you head back to the village.

Transfer to Heho airport for your domestic flight to Yangon (about 1 hour flight).

Then, proceed to Yangon international airport for your departure flight back to your country.
